Welcome, CEU students!

September 4, 2017

The CEU Careers team looks forward to meeting you and working with you on your career development.

CEU is a dynamic place. CEU students are diverse and energetic. CEU’s degree programs are intense and academically stimulating. Community life at CEU is vibrant, and there are numerous opportunities for civic engagement as well as many interesting things to do in the beautiful city of Budapest. Learning takes place all of the time, both within and beyond the CEU classroom. Your time at CEU will be busy and exciting. Life after CEU may sometimes seem like a distant vision.

Our role is to help you think about your professional future. We’ll encourage you to be deliberate in working out how you can connect what you learn at CEU to real-world impact in the professional sphere of your choice, after you complete your degree program and join the network of 14,000+ CEU alumni all over the world. We’ll provide advice and resources to help you consider the route/s you might take. We’ll help you identify potentially-relevant career paths and share information about job vacancies, internship opportunities, and professional and academic fellowships through CEU's careers platform career>next.

Everyone's career development path is unique, but there are a few key steps that you need to consider, no matter your longer-term goals. They are:

Step 1: knowing your strengths
What are you really good at? What do you enjoy doing? What motivates you to do excellent work? Turn to us for self-exploration resources that will help you identify and articulate your skills and interests.

Step 2: identifying possible career paths
What are common career trajectories for individuals with interests and skills like yours? What organizations are making the kind of impact you'd like to be part of? We’ll help you make sure you’re asking effective questions as you engage in career research, and we’ll see that you connect with career resources and information that is relevant for you.

Step 3: connecting with people who can help you
How can you tap into expert knowledge and gain access to insider information about specific career fields? Turn to us for advice on developing a personal career guidance network. We’ll help you think about how to "reach out" to CEU alumni and other professionals and provide guidelines for engaging with your network in a way that makes sense.

Step 4: getting the word out about the unique brand that is you
It takes time and energy to create an authentic and compelling personal careers narrative. We’re here to help you as you craft your career development story. Turn to us for advice on putting together effective job applications and preparing for interviews.

CEU's newly-integrated Careers team is accustomed to working with busy graduate students. Over the course of the 2017-2018 academic year, we'll share information and resources that will help you make the most of your time at CEU.

Where will your CEU experience take you? Each journey is unique. CEU Careers will accompany you as you make your way.
