Professional Skills Program

Employers expect a range of skills from doctoral graduates entering the job market. This is especially true for those who choose to transition to careers outside academia. CEU Careers is your partner when it comes to developing and articulating these skills and competencies.

Launched in 2015, the Professional Skills Program (PSP) is open to CEU students who have successfully completed the first year of doctoral studies. Presentation skills, public speaking, effective job applications, networking, project management, and working in teams are some of the subjects tackled during the open-enrollment courses.

Public speaking and Presentation skills 

Monday, 7 May 2018, 9:00 – 4:30 pm
Location: Nador 11 room 004

An interactive, skill-building workshop aiming to teach students how to formulate clear and focused messages, how to connect and build rapport with an audience, and how to deliver one’s message for the desired impact. Students will improve their abilities to communicate effectively with competence, credibility, and warmth.


Exploring career options outside academia 

Monday, 23 April 2018, 9:00 – 4:30 pm
Location: Nador 11 room 004

The workshop aims to equip the students considering opportunities outside academia with the necessary skills to shape their own careers: making sense of their options and what they have to offer, recognizing and articulating skills and experiences, searching for inspiration and information, writing applications and approaching employers will be discussed and relevant practical advice will be co-created.
