Job Title:  Scientific Coordinator

The Central European University (CEU) invites applications for Scientific Coordinator position in the Department of Environmental Sciences and Policy.

This position supports the academic, research, and international policy work of Prof. Diana Ürge-Vorsatz, Professor at CEU and Vice-Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of academia, practice and global climate policy.

Duties and Responsibilities 

The two main responsibilities associated with this position are:

1. Provide research support for an AI-focused modeling project on energy system related mitigation opportunities in cities, focused on buildings, land use and energy demand

2. Provide science and logistic support to the IPCC Vice Chair

These include the following specific duties: 

• Assist in the preparation of speeches, presentations, lectures, mostly in the areas covered by IPCC reports
• Oversee and occasionally co-manage ongoing research projects in the team of Urge-Vorsatz, managing research proposals
• Execute research tasks related to the AI-focused urban energy system modeling project, tailored to the candidate’s skills
• Contribute to or lead scientific publications, reports
• Coordination with international collaborators and scientists
• Support Prof. Urge-Vorsatz’ teaching tasks
• Provide logistical, reporting and other necessary support to Prof. Ürge-Vorsatz in her capacity as IPCC Vice-Chair
• Optional: manage the social media and other climate communication tasks of the IPCC Vice Chair

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or PhD in environmental sciences, climate science, engineering, architecture, computer science, public policy, law, economics, or a related field
• Experience in research, modeling or science communication
• Strong interest in climate change mitigation, sustainability, and international policy 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, including speech writing and presentation preparation
• Strong organizational and project management skills, with excellent skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities
• Ability to work independently and handle sensitive or high-level material with discretion 

Nice to have:

• Work experience related to climate change 
• Modeling experience, track record in research 
• AI related experience
• Familiarity with IPCC processes or international climate policy
• Fluency in Hungarian (for Hungarian-language presentations and outreach)
